SUMMER 2010

Marine & Sailing Enterprises S.A. is again organizing a two-week marine vacation in the Greek Islands of the North Aegean. By joining this marvellous excursion you will have the unique chance to enjoy unusual vacation on a yacht -not another hotel room- and relish the numerous beauties of Greece such as discovering beaches and harbours that can only be reached by boat, swimming in crystal clear water, unforgettable sunsets, picturesque villages and enjoying the famous Greek hospitality. You will also see the waterfalls on Samothraki, deer running free in woods on Limnos, dolphins and maybe seals, whales, sea turtles e.t.c.
Our well-trained and experienced skippers as well as our fully equipped yachts guarantee a safe and unforgettable vacation. Please bring your children along, the yachts will then be accordingly equipped. For singles or couples we will try to find a matching crew. If you know about sailing you are welcome to give the skipper a hand, if not, you might learn some basics about it. Or you can also just relax and let the skipper take care of everything. Our boats depart every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. from the Marina of Thessaloniki and return there on Friday evening, two weeks later.
The full programme of the excursion is as follows:

  • Friday evening, we gather at our company’s office, where you meet your skipper and get acquainted with the rest of the group. You all together organize the shopping-list regarding food and provisions and the skipper will give you all necessary information about the excursion. You may spend the night on board (if you are interested you should, please, inform us in advance).
  • We depart on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. from the Marina of Thessaloniki. After having our first stop for swimming -lunch - rest at Sani or Posidi (very picturesque beaches of Chalkidiki), we arrive at Porto Koufo in the afternoon for dinner and rest.
  • On Saturday night we depart for the island of Samothraki and arrive at the main village (Kamariotissa) on Sunday morning. There you could rent a car and visit for example Fonias, the fascinating gorge with its blue lakes and famous waterfalls, see the renown Statue of Victory in Therma (the original statue is displayed in the Louvre, Paris) and taste local specialties, such as stuffed goat or just stroll around and relax.
  • On Monday you could visit the Archaeological Museum, the famous castle in Paleopolis that extends from the sea to the sides of Agios Georgios (the castle was constructed in the 6th century BC), the old town with its castle and very picturesque old houses, the Church of Panagia Krimniotissa e.t.c. We then set sail for the beautiful beaches of the island for swimming and at night we can enjoy the local nightlife.
  • Later on we leave for Myrina (Lemnos), where we expect to arrive on Tuesday morning. There you should visit the Castle of Myrina to watch the deer and roe that live freely there, explore Poliohni, considered to be the oldest organized European settlement, mentioned by Homer (4000 - 1600 BC), the sunken city east of Cape Keros, the numerous museums in Myrina, the Main Church illuminated at night, the cave of Filoktitis, e.t.c.
  • On Wednesday we sail along the South-West side of the island where we visit the fascinating bays of Plati, Thanos, Diapori, Íevgati, Nea Koutali and spend the night anchored in one of the above locations where we have a barbecue.
  • On Thursday morning we set off for Lesvos and arrive at Molyvos, home of the famous musician Arion, in the evening. Molyvos is blessed with endless beauty. The old village fascinates with its traditional houses made of stone. Molyvos also hosts festivals all summer long, so we may be able to watch something exquisite and unusual. A walk around the castle, which is the biggest in the Mediterranean, is a must. Then the young (and the young at heart) can enjoy the nightlife.
  • On Friday morning we leave for Mytilini, but first we stop at the delightful Tokmakia islands for swimming and lunch. The town of Mytilini is constructed on seven hills opposite the Asia Minor coast, surrounded by a castle. In town, there are several museums and the well-kept Byzantine castle, well worth visiting. In the old town you can see some impressive villas built for the island’s nobility at the turn of the century. You should also taste the famous «ouzo» and the sardines of Kalloni.
  • On Saturday morning we set sail for Gera bay and stop at Skala Loutron. In the afternoon we sail to Plomari where we stay overnight. Plomari is the second largest town on the island with beautiful houses, narrow cable-stone streets, plenty of greenery and a very picturesque harbour. We can have our dinner under the old plane tree, planted in 1813.
  • On Sunday morning we leave for Eressos, the country of the famous poet Sapfo and stop for swimming and lunch. Afterwards we sail to Sigri arriving late in the afternoon. This place is ideal for a quiet vacation and is well known for its fossilized forest, which Greek and foreign scientists consider one of the most remarkable geological monuments in the world.
  • After resting for a while we leave for Agios Petros bay on Kyra- Panagia Island, where we arrive on Monday morning. Kyra-Panagia is a small, uninhabited island that belongs to the Northern Sporades complex, with an extremely clear blue sea and many beautiful locations to explore. Upon arrival we can swim, fish or rest. Then we sail to Steni Valla (Alonnisos) which will take us approximately two hours. In Steni Valla we buy provisions from the supermarket situated on the harbour and then we could taste fresh fish and lobster at the local taverns and also visit the old capital of Alonnisos, admire the beautiful local architecture and the panoramic view.
  • On Tuesday morning we set sail for Skopelos. On our way there we anchor in one of the beautiful bays of Peristera. In the afternoon we arrive at Skopelos, where we taste the local specialties (such as Skopelos’ cheese pie), have fun at the local bars and clubs and go Greek dancing. Worth visiting are the famous little churches of Skopelos as well as its folklore Museum. Even a simple stroll through the narrow streets of Skopelos is a memorable experience.
  • On Wednesday morning we sail around Skopelos and anchor at the most picturesque harbors of the island -Stafylos, Agnondas and Panormos. At Panormos we stop for lunch and enjoy the unique beauty of this natural harbor. In the afternoon we sail to Skiathos. A visit to the house of the famous writer Papadiamantis gives us an idea of the local tradition and culture. Skiathos is well known for its luxurious shops and the active nightlife with an international flavour.
  • On Thursday morning we leave for the famous beach ‘’Koukounaries’’ and then we continue on to Agios Giannis at the foothills of Pilio Mountain, where we rest and have lunch. We spend the night in either Stomio (Tsagiezi) or Kamari (Pilio), both small well-protected harbors.
